Saturday Dressmaking Skills – Making & Fitting Pockets
April 4, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
£25If you would like to jazz up your basic dressmaking with some more skills, then these Saturday sessions may well be the answer. We’re assuming that you can already follow a pattern, and sew a basic garment. We are running 4 sessions that will help you make a range of clothing, such as shirts, jackets and dresses with collars and sleeves. If you’d like to make a complete garment please book on the complete course which is a separate listing and contact us to discuss your pattern, the ideal pattern for the course would really be a jacket tho….
This session looks at making and fitting pockets, we will cover:
- In seam pockets and how to add them to a pattern, because dresses with pockets are just the best thing.
- Patch pockets and how to add those to a pattern too…
- Jetted or welted pockets (for suit jackets).
You can make practice pieces on the session, and if you’re following a pattern then you can use the session to make your pockets. There’s comprehensive handouts for you to follow, which along with your practice pieces, will serve as a visual reminder of the techniques.
If you’ve a pattern that you’d like to add pockets too please bring it along to the session, but do let us know in advance.
If you’ve a sewing machine of your own, please do bring it along. You will need to be au fait with using your machine and be able to read and follow a pattern, if you are working from a pattern. If you’d just like to learn about pockets and you can use a sewing machine, then this course is for you too.
As usual class sizes are small and you’ll get plenty of one to one time, there’s comprehensive handouts and a sewing resource sheet.
The course runs 1-4pm and costs £25 including materials and refreshments.
