Beginners Dressmaking @ Tod College. 6 week Course. Sep – Oct
September 23 @ 6:30 pm - October 28 @ 8:30 pm£30 – £90
Our comprehensive 6 week beginners dressmaking course is now running at Tod College! It’s a beginners course, suitable for anyone who can use a sewing machine to sew pretty much where they want to and has a yearning to make clothing! We’ll demystify the pattern envelope, instructions and pattern markings with you, teach you accurate sizing, measuring and cutting out, then get on and make a simple garment, including fitting a zip. If you feel you’ve not yet mastered your sewing machine, or you’d like to learn to use it we’d suggest our beginners sewing courses for starters.
The course will cover both theory and practice, class sizes are small and questions are actively encouraged. We advise you to start with a simple skirt or top, ( about 6-10 pattern pieces) and we’ll cover dressmaking techniques as needed.
You’ll need a simple pattern, some fabric and Thursday evenings spare for 6 weeks. You won’t need your fabric or even a pattern for the first session if you’d rather discuss what to buy first, although if you’ve already got something in mind just bring it along. You may need to do a small amount of work at home to keep on track, probably cutting out.
The course runs on Thursday evenings, 6.30-8.30pm. £90 for 6 weeks.
£90 including materials. If you pay the £30 deposit to book please pay the balance on the first session of the course. If you wish to spread payments out over a longer period please contact us to arrange. Places are limited to 8.
You will need to bring your own machine, although we can provide one for a small charge, and your own pattern and fabric. Everything else can be provided as needed and included in the cost, however if you do have your own scissors, tape measure pins etc we do advise you to bring them along as equipment is limited and would need to be shared. The college provide a tea trolley at a cost of £1 per person per session, or feel free to bring your own drink with you!
