So you’ve made a garment or two and you’re feeling good about it all, maybe thinking that you’d like to try something a bit more advanced. Or possibly you’re a vintage enthusiast who does a bit of sewing and would love to make a vintage dress. Maybe you fancy a 50’s style fitted dress with a gathered skirt, or a halterneck with a circle skirt, maybe a 60’s shift dress or even a wiggle dress!
We are running a summer dressmaking course covering using vintage patterns, we won’t be covering all the information that we do on the beginners dressmaking, so if it’s all still a bit of a mystery then maybe our beginners course is the place for you. What we will look at is using vintage patterns, including re-sizing your pattern for the modern figure and understanding the slightly different markings and techniques used.
We will cover dressmaking techniques as needed, such as fitting zips, sewing parts, pleats and gathers, hand finishing techniques and hemming circle skirts!
Class sizes are small, it’s a friendly informal environment and questions and discussion are actively encouraged, plus there’s plenty of one to one time. We can provide sewing machines, but you are welcome to bring your own. Please contact us in advance to discuss what dress and fabric you have in mind. If you’ve a pattern in mind then do bring it along, or you can take a look at our patterns and see if something catches your eye.
The course will run on a Thursday evening, 6.30 – 8.30 for 6 weeks and costs £75, including some materials, excellent tuition and refreshments.
